Sarah Shaw

Sarah teaches Buddhism at the University of Oxford, and Buddhist contemplative studies at Brown University, Rhode Island, USA. She was awarded her doctorate at Manchester University in English literature, then changed subjects to Pāli and Buddhist Studies when she and her family moved to Oxford.

Sarah came across meditation years ago as a student. It helped her so much she has taught the method ever since – samatha breathing mindfulness. She has written many books on related subjects – and notices she has a tendency to get the titles muddled as they often include the words ‘meditation’ and ‘mindfulness’!

Sarah has three grown-up children, and an elderly spaniel called Humph. She lives with her husband in a village outside Oxford and frequently spends time on retreats at Greenstreete, the Samatha Centre, in mid-Wales, where she sometimes teaches and sometimes goes to do the cooking. In her spare time she knits, and goes for long walks in Scotland.
