The Nyingma Icons
Deities, Masters & Guardians of the Inner Tantras
Compiled by Nigel Wellings
First commissioned from the Tibetan master artist Gomchen Auleshi and published over fifty years ago, this group of ninety-four line drawings representing the Nyingma pantheon and masters is accompanied for the first time by a comprehensive introduction and explanation.
This is a valuable resource for all those engaged with the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism and those interested in Tibetan Buddhist iconography generally. Together the drawings and stories enable easy identification of all the principal Nyingma deities, the masters and treasure-finders of the distant and close lineages, and the many Nyingma Dharma Protectors.
Nigel Wellings is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. For over fifty years he has explored the relationship between psychotherapy and Buddhism, Dzogchen in particular, having first met Chögyal Namkhai Norbu in the mid-1970s while studying Thangka painting in India.
Auleshi’s drawings have been a valuable resource in my encounters with Nyingma Buddhism over the years. It is lovely to see them made available again in this splendid new version.

Nigel Wellings has again provided us with a guide to the often obscure biographies of the early Dzogchen masters and how the weaving of their lives and terma discoveries created the rich tapestry of dzogchen practices which have survived to the present day.
